The Scarlets

-The descriptions of women in this collection have been in the order of appearance. Priorities made are just coinsidential. There is no other reason why some are presented, and some not, than being mentioned in the books. I have not been making studies in depth amongst private papers in state archives and other simular institutions. The importance has been to search material available to the people; historybooks, the books availabe in reading rooms at the library, and others I have stumbled over. It is these "common" sources that make our history, because they belong to all of us, the content does not. In the beginning I wanted to dig into history. I wanted to use words, qoutes, references to "direct speech". This turned out to be impossible, especially after being in contact with people skilled on the subject, the message was the same; there isn´t any! I increased the project to "quick notes", to mirror the quality of the source material. Later the "biblical" aspect arised, simply because you cannot avoid it. Trondheim celebrates it´s christening and have a thousand years of history to put in the lights of this belief. It became apparent that the history´s neglectence concerning the presence of women, are a symptom of religion. It could be any kind of religion, but some of us, and this country´s history are subjects of the christian belief. And when you turn to the Book, one doesn´t wonder anymore of the absence of women in history. It seems quite reasonable that they are left out, after all they are both dangerous and alien. The title of the project came when drawing a parallel between the scarlet woman in St. Johns Revelations, and the expressions of biblical origins on women one operates with today. The title "The scarlets" is a continuance of the biblical meaning of the words, but without the same unambiguous assertion: we are all related to the scarlet woman.
